OUR STORY
Founded by Penelope Bisbee, the Jim Bob Art Park & Nature Trails is a very rural sculpture garden and wildlife habitat located on Bisbee family property in the "breaks" region of Knox County on the outskirts of Benjamin, Texas. The Bisbee family includes, among others, Penelope’s brothers, Robert, Gregory, Stephen, and a cousin, Betsy Bisbee Dungan.
Nature trails and wildlife habitat projects are in the beginning stages. There are four sculptures on the property and there are ongoing plans to acquire and exhibit more art throughout the park. The goals are to exhibit contemporary art in a challenging and beautiful environment, to provide exhibition opportunities for artists, and to engage and educate through workshops, classes, and lectures.
The park is named after Penelope Bisbee’s father who died in 2003. He grew up in Benjamin, Texas, went to college at the University of Texas in Austin and earned a Masters of Social Work at Tulane University. He was a World War II veteran and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His name was James Robert Bisbee. Most who knew James Robert Bisbee, knew him as Jim or James, but in Benjamin, he was Jim Bob. In the decision to name the park after Lt. Col Bisbee, it seemed fitting to use his Benjamin nickname.
Also, the name The Penelope Bisbee Contextualized Contemporary Sculpture Park and Idyllic Natural Oasis with Expertly Designed Life-Changing Nature Trail Experiences seemed too pretentious. And too long.

OUR VISION
We want to provide opportunities for artists to exhibit their work and opportunities for those interested in art to learn about art and engage with the artists. Because the setting is outdoors, we want to provide experiences in the natural environment as well. These experiences could be educational or meditative or something as simple and as wonderful as hiking on a sunny, blue-sky, breezy day accompanied by road runners and the distant howl of coyotes..

Is Jim Bob Art Park & Nature Trails a nonprofit?
Yes, it is 501(c)(3). Donations are tax deductible.
We would like to donate to you. Is that possible?
Certainly! Our budget is so small it would fit in a soup can and have room left over for a framed Andy Warhol print of Marilyn Monroe so please send money! Contact us if you are quite serious about donating.
Do you have merchandise available with that great JBAP&NT logo on it?
Glad you asked. Why certainly! Although we are not set up online yet to sell merchandise, we will be. We do have some t-shirts and buttons with the logo. They are free (yes, free) but you have to pay for shipping. Once we order new t-shirts they will no longer be free. If you are interested, send an email to penbisbee@gmail.com to request a t-shirt and/or button.
FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)
Are you on social media?
Yes. We are on Instagram and have a Facebook page.
Do you need volunteer help?
Why yes, of course! Thank you for asking. If you have skills that might be helpful to an art park and nature trails at the beginning of its journey, let us know. There is no paid staff. We are all volunteers.
Can we rent the park for a wedding reception or family reunion?
Not yet, but glad you asked. We think the park is a wonderful place for a festive, outdoor event. Check back with us. We are working to make it happen in the future.
I have an idea for a world-changing art/nature event. Who do I contact.?
Big thinkers are the best! Send an email to penbisbee@gmail.com.
Are there rattlesnakes at the park?
Of course. I stay out of their way. There are also road runners, rabbits, coyotes, deer, fussy mockingbirds, lizards, and unfriendly horse flies. And more. Come see them!
